5G Not Seen As A Big Deal By Business Execs

New 5G services will be gradually rolling out starting this year, but many business execs don’t see it being that big a deal.

The majority (53%) of executives say there are very few things 5G will enable them to do that they can’t do with 4G networks, according to a recent study.

Just over a third (37%) expect 5G to bring a revolutionary shift in speed and capacity.

The study, comprising a survey of 1,800 executives from midsized to large businesses across industries in 10 countries, was conducted by Loudhouse Research for Accenture.

However, they do see 5G coming, with 60% believing it will cover nearly all the population by 2022 and 70% expect it will give them a competitive edge with customers. Nearly half (46%) of executives expect 5G will have a significant impact on speed.

Tapping into the benefits of 5G is not obvious to all. Nearly three-quarters (72%) of executives say they need help imagining the future possibilities and use cases of 5G, and a majority (60%) say there is a lack of knowledge among communication service providers about the challenges in their industries.

Perceived barriers to the adoption of 5G include upfront investment (36%), security (32%) and employee buy-in (29%).

While 5G speeds are coming, the market has not yet figured out what to do with it.
