Netflix Goes 'Wide," Will Produce Print Magazine, First Issue Focuses On Emmys

Netflix is joining tech companies like Airbnb and Bumble and publishing a magazine. It will promote the video streaming giant’s talent and shows as it gears up for the Emmy Awards this fall.

Currently called Wide, the free, print magazine will be over 100 pages and contain interviews, essays and features around Netflix’s series, according to Bloomberg, which first reported the news.

The company released about 700 programs last year, including movies, TV series, documentaries, comedy specials and animation.

The magazine will be distributed at Netflix-hosted events and screenings in June, when television academy members cast their votes for Emmy nominations.

Netflix has tapped Vanity Fair contributing editor and Netflix consultant Krista Smith to work on the magazine’s production, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Wide will likely be published on a quarterly basis, THR reports, with content created both in-house and by freelancers.

Netflix has 140 million+ subscribers worldwide; it earned the most Emmy nominations of any network last year. It won 23 Emmy Awards in 2018, tying with HBO for most total awards.

The 2019 Emmy Awards will take place Sept. 22.
