The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation is out with a new national campaign created by Oberland that calls on people to stop looking away from people with disabilities and instead see them for who they really are.

In a video released this week a young woman who is being filmed close up asks, “Does looking at me make you want to look away?” As the camera pans back and it becomes clear that she and others around her are in wheelchairs, the woman asks, “what about now?”

The video issues the call to action: “Don’t just look at us. See us.”

“There are over 61 million Americans living with a disability and more than five million living with paralysis, representing the largest minority group in the U.S. “ says Peter Wilderotter, President and CEO, of the Reeve Foundation. “Each of these individuals has a powerful story to share that is rich with achievement. It is our hope that ‘See Us’ will rally a swelling chorus of voices that will challenge the world to see people living with paralysis for who they really are and what they have accomplished.”
