March For Our Lives — the anti-gun-violence movement formed by survivors of the Parkland, Florida, school shooting last year — is out with a powerful new PSA from McCann titled “Generation Lockdown.”
The spot simulates a company seminar on what to do in the event of an on-site shooter. A special guest has been brought in to lead the instruction.
She is well versed in the dos and don’ts of how to respond in the event of a shooter on the premises. And she is about 8 years old.
The spot arrives just after the 20th anniversary of the tragic Columbine High School shooting in Colorado.
It’s a stark reminder of the dangerous environment today’s kids face in schools across the country, as evidenced by the lengthy list of school shootings in the post-Columbine era.
Here’s another reminder that is pointed out in the spot: an estimated 95% of school kids are now trained on what to do in the event of an active shooter situation.
That’s a good thing, because sadly, it doesn’t appear that easy access to guns in this country is going away anytime soon.
Thus, survival training, although not a perfect antidote, is critically important.
