Continuing to reshape the mobile marketplace in its own image, TikTok remains the most downloaded app on Apple’s App Store.
That’s according to Sensor Tower, which found the Chinese-owned app racked up 33 million new installs during the first quarter of the year.
Known to the world as musical.ly until it was acquired and modified by ByteDance, TikTok is a video-sharing app that young consumers crave. Factoring in Google’s Play Store, WhatsApp topped the list of the most installed apps during the period. Worldwide, the Facebook-owned app saw 223 million new installs, according to Sensor Tower.
Across the App Store and Google Play, Facebook’s Messenger was the second-most installed app during the period (more than 200 million), which was followed by TikTok (more than 175 million).
Across both app platforms, Facebook’s flagship app also saw more than 175 million installs during the period, while Instagram saw more than 100 million installs.
Trailing far behind the industry’s download leaders, Snap’s flagship app saw just over 50 million installs during the period, while Twitter accrued roughly 40 million new installs.
Twitter had 11.7 million App Store downloads during the period, which represented a 3.6% increase year-over-year, and made it the sixteenth most downloaded app, during the first quarter of this year.
Worldwide, video editing app Biugo and photo editing app PicsArt entered the list of Top 20 apps, during the period.
Also of note, YouTube Kids boasted 29 million downloads in the quarter, which represented an increase of 291% quarter-over-quarter.
