Uber Elevate has asked
the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to allow it to deliver food by drone in San Diego.
In a petition filed with the FAA by Luke Fischer, head of flight operations at Uber Elevate, the
company is asking for certification to conduct a small package food delivery service.
“Uber Elevate, Inc. seeks exemptions to allow it to conduct part 119 air carrier operations for
compensation or hire under part 135 using small unmanned aircraft systems (small UAS), states the petition. “Specifically, Uber Elevate., Inc. seeks permission to conduct small UAS carrier
operations for commercial food package delivery in the United States, initially in the City of San Diego.”
Uber Elevate plans to use the Air Robot 200 UAS, a star-shaped hexa-copter,
which can carry up to 25 pounds and can fly just over three miles.
