Pluto TV, NFL Bow Channel Offering Classic NFL Footage

The National Football League and Pluto TV, acquired in January by Viacom, have partnered to launch a streaming channel dedicated to “classic moments” and other programming from the NFL’s library.

The channel, launched Tuesday, features content from NFL Films and NFL Media, including moments from more than a decade of past seasons, team-specific season recaps, replays of classic games and countdown shows, past seasons of HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” and “NFL 100 Top Players of 2018.”

As part of ad-supported Pluto, the channel is free to consumers, and will not offer 2019 season content or overlap with the NFL Network.

Pluto — which offers more than 150 networks and thousands of on-demand movies and TV shows, and has 18 million active users — provides the NFL with another platform for broadening the audience for content from its in-house production arm NFL Films senior executive Ross Ketover told Deadline.

The new channel’s timing and “from the vault” nature should benefit from the nostalgia surrounding the NFL’s 100th season, he noted.

The NFL Channel also coincides with the re-merger of Viacom and CBS, which will broadcast its 60th season of NFL games this fall.

The companies have stressed that they view the potential for sharing content across their streaming platforms as one major benefit of the merger.
