Yahoo Mail Down In Parts Of Europe, Company Is Working On The Problem

Yahoo and Yahoo Mail went down in Western Europe early Thursday morning, according to reports on downdetector.

Reports peaked around 3 a.m., EDT when over 3,000 complaints were posted. The problem began at 2:10 a.m.

The heaviest concentration appears to be in the UK and other parts of Europe, with reports coming in from Switzerland to Greece. However, the downdetector map also shows some email issues in Western India and Malaysia, and some parts of the U.S.

Yahoo has confirmed the outage in a customer service post: "You may not be able to access some of our services, including email. Our top priority right now is getting this fixed. We appreciate your patience."

Among the comments coming in about Yahoo Mail around 9 a.m. EDT this morning:

“France is still down, this is crazy.”

“You can’t even contact yahoo customer services to put in a complaint it’s the whole site that has gone down you cannot use yahoo search engines as that is down too”

“I'm getting a No Internet Connection error on my Yahoo mail, but my connection is active and I can access other sites. I'm in the USA, State of Georgia.”

Among the complaints posted on downdetector, 60% are for log-in difficulties, 24% for website issues and 14% for inability to read mail.

Overall, the Yahoo problems appear to be affecting the Northeastern U.S.  as well as an area of Russia.

UPDATE: Yahoo states that most services are back online. BBC reports that the outage also affected BT, Sky and TalkTalk's email accounts that are powered by Yahoo.
