Barbarian Expands Offering With New 'Labs' Unit, Taps Hines As CTO

Digital agency Barbarian, part of Cheil Worldwide, has named Lamar Hines Chief Technology Officer. 

Part of his remit is to oversee the agency’s new offering Barbarian Labs which offers services including creating custom teams within the broader agency to address specific business challenges of brand clients. 

The Barbarian Labs unit will also design programs for brands challenged by the burgeoning D2C sector and more broadly help brands develop transformation blueprints and prototypes inclusive of AR, apps, and other technologies and processes. 

The company said that Samsung—which Hines has worked with in the past--is the first client to sign on with Barbarian Labs. 

Hines previously served as vice president, technology at Interpublic’s R/GA where he worked with the agency’s Enterprise Technology service offering. 

“Lamar will play a crucial role in bringing Barbarian’s strategic vision to life through 2020 and beyond,” stated Steven Moy, who joined the agency as CEO in August. “He has an accomplished background and entrepreneurial spirit that will champion Barbarian Labs and our clients’ work, driving their businesses forward with a technology-focused mindset.”
