LG To Intro Advanced, In-Car Infotainment System At CES

Car infotainment is getting bigger.

At CES, LG plans to showcase an enhanced webOS Auto ecosystem in its connected car.

LG’s connected car uses Adient and webOS, a Linux-based automotive infotainment platform that essentially serves as the connected hub for connected cars.

The system provides passengers with services such as internet radio and video streaming at their seats.

Qualcomm, Microsoft, Qt and Luxoft, all of which have worked with LG to develop webOs Auto, will also exhibit along with LG.

The platform is set to compete with other car infotainment platforms, such as Apple’s CarPlay and Google’s Android Auto.

“We will strategically cooperate with various global technology companies to continuously strengthen the webOS Auto ecosystem and expand our influence as a global leader in next-generation automotive software,” stated Park Il-pyeong, CEO of LG Electronics.

To expand the ecosystem, LG has partnered with content companies including iHeart Radio, Mapbox and Cerence, which will be provided through webOS Auto.

The coming of increased car connectivity brings things to do with that connectivity. At least some are thinking of entertaining passengers as they ride in those connected cars.

You know advertising has to follow.

Looks llike milennials cannot have any downtime where there is silence, or God-forbid, interaction, conversation with family or friends.  I'm so sick of watching new parents stick a video in front of their 2 year old as a babysitter.  This doesn't end well.

so we need non-stop entertainment in the car as we travel, "to help pass the time".
Such a pile of Bull S**t.  By the time that 2 year old reaches adulthood, there will be no reason to interact with another human..............Very Sad.
