Gmail Hit By Outages On Wednesday

Gmail went down in the U.S. and Europe and parts on Wednesday.

Complaints spiked with downdetector around 11 a.m. EDT. By 5 p.m., the reports had subsided.

The downdetector map showed that the outages were especially severe in the East, Midwest and Southern California.

In addition, there were more limited outages in the UK, Northern Europe and Brazil.

Among problems reported to downdetector, 68% were about inability to receive messages, 26% for log-in problems and 4% for website issues.

According to reports, Gmail issued a statement, saying: “Gmail service has already been restored for some users, and we expect a resolution for all users in the near future. The problem with Gmail should be resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

UPDATE: On Wednesday morning, the Google Cloud Status Dashboard said, "We are experiencing an issue in Cloud IAM which is impacting multiple services." Then it reported, "the issue affecting multiple Google Cloud services has been resolved for all users."
