Tucker Carlson Leaves 'Daily Caller,' Sells His Stake As Cofounder

Fox News host Tucker Carlson is leaving TheDaily Caller.

Carlson cofounded the conservative digital publication in 2010.

According to multiple reports, Carlson wants to focus more energy on his Fox News show “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”

Daily Caller cofounder-publisher Neil Patel had recently bought out Carlson’s stake in the company. He now owns controlling interest in the company.

Patel told The Wall Street Journal the purchase makes The Daily Caller the largest digital media company owned by a person of color. Patel is of Indian ethnicity.

Carlson served as The Daily Caller’s editor in chief until 2016, when he began hosting his Fox News show.

The Daily Caller site attracted nearly 5 million monthly unique visitors in April, according to TheRighting, which tracks traffic to conservative websites, based on Comscore data. Traffic went up 3% year-over-year.

Carlson’s Fox News show is also going through some changes: It lost five major advertisers — T-Mobile, SmileDirectClub, Disney, Papa John’s and Vari — in a two-day span, after Carlson criticized the Black Lives Matter movement.
