Fox Sports announced on Friday that it laid off more than 50 staff.

Although many sports media jobs industrywide have been lost due to the COVID-driven shut down of sports events, Fox said the layoffs were not a result of the pandemic.

Instead, the job cuts reflected reduced employee needs as a result of Fox Sports’ sale last summer of its regional sports networks to Sinclair, according to the network.

“As part of Fox Sports’ commitment to become a more efficient organization, we are taking steps to streamline our business,” the network said in a statement. “As a result, today we announced the restructuring of several positions.”
