'Time,' NBC To Premiere 'Person of the Year' Broadcast Special

Time is partnering with NBC for a “Time Person of the Year” broadcast special. It is the third major network broadcast partnership for Time this year.

The special will feature exclusive coverage of the 2020 Person of the Year, a franchise that started in 1927 to recognize the person or group of people who had the greatest influence on the events of the year.

It will also include Time editors’ selections for other categories, an addition that began last year, including: Businessperson of the Year, Entertainer of the Year, Athlete of the Year and Guardians of the Year.

The NBC special will include profiles highlighting the year’s global stories, interviews, surprise appearances and musical performances.

“Time Person of the Year” will premiere on Dec. 10 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. It is presented by State Farm and Amazon.

Produced in partnership with P&G, the special was created by Time’s television and film division Time Studios, with MaggieVision Productions serving as showrunners.

"With so many pivotal moments to highlight this year, we look forward to further expanding the reach and impact of Person of the Year with this new special on NBC,” stated Ben Goldberger, Time executive editor and editorial director of Person of the Year.

The TIME100 broadcast special premiered on ABC in September, listing the 100 most influential people in the world. It drew roughly 2.4 million viewers.

The broadcasts are a pivot from the in-person galas usually held for the Time100 and Person of the Year franchises, which are cannot be held this year, due to the pandemic.

On Dec. 5, the "Time Kid of the Year" special, hosted by “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah, will simulcast on Nickelodeon and CBS.

Time's 2020 Person of the Year coverage, which includes a special issue, multiple covers and photography and video packages, will also go live on Time.com Dec. 10.
