Discord Debuts Service For Digital Creators To Monetize Their Content

Discord, the platform for content creators, is rolling out a service it has been testing for the past year: Server Subscriptions. It allows creators to monetize their servers with subscriptions ranging from $2.99 up $199.99.

The service includes the Creator Portal, a “one-stop shop for all things creators on Discord,” Discord’s Derek Yang writes in a blog post.the company says.

Yang adds that“it’s totally up to creators and community leaders on how they utilize it: from pricing to offerings, server owners can set up their Server Subscriptions how they like while taking home 90% of the money they earn after applicable deductions.”

Server Subscriptions allows creators to establish a paid subscription tier in their servers. One creator, Bella Poarch, is offering three tiers:

  • Tier 1, priced at $2.99, provides monthly video and access to features in the server, including creation of public threads.
  • Tier 2, priced at $4.99 a month, gives subscribers voting rights on polls and early access to future merchandier drops, along with features from tier one.
  • Tier 3, which costs $9.99 a month, grants access to behind the scenes content and all of the perks from the previous two tiers.

Yang adds that creators can also share their server subscription offerings “outside of your Discord community! Promo pages allow you to create a sharable webpage to promote all your Server Subscription has to offer, even outside of Discord.”
