QSRs Embrace National Coffee Day With Multitude Of Promotions

If coffee is your jam, Sept. 29, National Coffee Day, is the day you’ve been waiting for all year. And there are a lot of people like you -- 67% of Americans drink coffee every day, more than any other beverage including water, according to the National Coffee Association.

Pretty much every QSR or fast casual chain is commemorating the day with giveaways or promotions of some sort.  Here’s a nowhere-near-exhaustive list of Coffee Day offerings. Caffeine addicts rejoice!

Probably the most unique promo comes from Peet’s Coffee with its disruptive “Disloyalty Program.” Members of its rivals’ rewards programs can use points earned elsewhere for a free coffee at Peet’s on the 29th. To receive the free drink, customers need to visit PeetsDisloyalty.com.

"We know that coffee people can be a bit promiscuous in their hunt for a great cup. We wanted to reward them for their loyalty to the drink because, no matter where else you get your coffee, coffee people deserve great coffee," said Jessica Buttimer, Peet's vice president of brand marketing, in a release.

Starbucks has decided to take a more worldly approach, commemorating both National Coffee Day Sept. 29 and International Coffee Day Oct 1 with the launch of its inaugural Global Coffee Week. Select Starbucks across the United States will offer free coffee tastings for customers on the 29th, along with various other events during the week.

Dunkin’ is offering members of its loyalty program, Dunkin’ Rewards, a free medium hot or iced coffee with any purchase on Friday.

Dutch Bros Coffee will offer an exclusive "Drink More Coffee" hat for purchase at all 750+ shops. Customers who buy a hat -- only available on the 29th while supplies last --  will receive a free drink of their choice.

Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is using the day to launch a new contest in honor of its 60th anniversary. With every purchase on the chain’s rewards app through Oct. 31, customers are entered to win the grand prize of free coffee and tea for a year, while 60 more will win free drinks for the remainder of 2023.

Krispy Kreme is giving away a free medium hot or iced coffee, with no purchase necessary on the day. The donut chain will also offer a box of Original Glazed Donuts for only $2 with the purchase of any dozen.

Wendy's nationwide will offer a small coffee, hot, cold brew, or Frosty cream cold brew, for 99 cents through Oct. 2 for app or website orders. In New York exclusively, customers who purchase a Frosty Boo! Book, which supports the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, will receive a free small Frosty Cream Cold Brew.
