The News Journal, a weekly newspaper made up of three other weeklies in Alabama, will publish its last issue on Oct. 25.
The owner, Consolidated Publishing Company, combined all three papers — Piedmont Journal, Cleburne News andJacksonville News — in 2018, according to WIAT.
However, “the ever-changing newspaper industry — which includes many readers’ preference for getting their news online — along with increased printing and distribution costs made Consolidated Publishing rethink its product lineup,” wrote Timothy Cash, managing editor of The Anniston Star, another newspaper in the Consolidated portfolio, the WIAT report continues.
Cash added that “events of unique interest to Jacksonville, Piedmont and Cleburne County readers” will be available in The Anniston Star.
The Cleburne Journal was founded in 1906, Piedmont Journal in 1907 and Jacksonville News in 1936.
