Jens Thiemer, BMW Group’s senior vice president customer and brand, announced today he is leaving the company.
The 400-word LinkedIn post indicates it was Thiemer’s decision to leave the global automaker, where he has been for nearly five years.
He wished his successor, Bernd Koerber, “all the best and always much success. It will be a pleasure continuing to sincerely follow the BMW path from the outside with great curiosity and inner conviction,” he writes.
Koerber has been with BMW Group for more than 20 years, most recently as senior vice president, BMW product management, connected company. He has spent considerable time at the automaker’s Mini brand, including as vice president of brand strategy and management.

Thiemer’s position at BMW Group included “forming an international brand and customer community into a successful team that is recognized both internally and externally across the full range of our topics,” he writes.
“The time has come for a new chapter,” Thiemer writes. "My time with BMW Group has been utterly rich with collaboration and growth on so many levels. My decision to leave our great brand and this unique company follows my inner conviction to initiate another change in my professional life, to learn new things and to take on a different, broader perspective soon.”
Thiemer says the BMW brand is in a “healthy, strong and future-proof condition.
“Together with one of the most engaged customer- and brand-teams, we have set the course for a truly customer-centric omni-channel sales and marketing machine,” he writes.
Prior to BMW Group, Thiemer spent five years at Daimler AG, where he was vice president of marketing and marketing communications.
