VML Consolidates Canadian Operations

WPP’s VML is further consolidating its operation in Canada. Agency network Taxi is merging with Wunderman Thompson Canada to form VML Canada. The move follows the global merger between VMLY&R and Wunderman Thompson announced late last year and the new entity’s rebranding to VML.

Rob Guénette, who previously served as CEO Taxi NA for 16 years has been named CEO of the newly formed agency. Vaishali Sarkar, who was named president of Wunderman Thompson Canada last May, will serve as president, VML Canada.  Former WT Canada CEO Audrey Melofchik shifted to the new VML post of Global Chief Brand Experience Officer two months ago.

Founded in 1992, Taxi, which has operations in the U.S., Canada and the Netherlands, first became part of WPP via its acquisition by Young & Rubicam in 2010.

The restructuring in Canada effects Taxi offices in Toronto and Vancouver. The Taxi brand will continue to operate in Montréal and New York as part of the wider VML network.

“VML Canada offers further simplicity as we extend the VML footprint across the North America market and enables clients across Canada to more easily access the services and resources of VML’s global network,” stated Jon Cook, global CEO of VML.

VML Canada’s leadership team will also include Graham Lang, chief creative officer; Christine Maw, newly appointed chief strategy officer; Emma Toth, promoted to chief client officer; and Matt Shoom-Kirsch, chief operating officer.

VML Canada clients include The Coca-Cola Company, Rogers Communications, CircleK/Couche Tard, Colgate-Palmolive, OLG, Canada Life, HSBC, IKEA, and Microsoft.
