Omnicom Forms Global Production Unit, Taps Sergio Lopez To Run It

Omnicom is consolidating various production units spread across the holding company into a newly formed unit called Omnicom Production.

The new practice area will include Omnicom Studios, eg+, Designory, Mother Tongue, Link9 and the production departments housed within the firm’s creative networks and agencies such as BBDO and DDB among others.

Sergio Lopez will lead the new entity as CEO. Most recently he was global CEO Publicis Production, which he joined in December 2021 and left in March. He has been in the ad production business for over 20 years and earlier led production efforts for Interpublic’s McCann and Stagwell’s Anomaly.

The move is the latest step by the holding company to ramp up its production capabilities. In 2023, the company announced a partnership with Adobe to provide its networks and agencies enterprise access to Adobe's Content Supply Chain solution.

Earlier this year it acquired UK-based content studio Coffee & TV (CTV). The deal includes CTV’s post-production facility Residence Pictures.

At the time, Omnicom noted that the acquisition would support CTV’s ambitious expansion plans for the U.S. and other international markets.

CTV is setting up studios in New York, Los Angeles and Austin, TX. Co-founder and CEO Derek Moore is overseeing U.S. expansion efforts.

At around the time of the CTV deal, the holding company also formed Omnicom Studios, headed by Dave Colon.

These newer offerings are connected to Omnicom's longstanding internal solutions, which include Artbot, its intelligent content automation system, and Omni, its open operating system.

In a bid to make those offering more robust, Omnicom said it has also expanded its existing partnerships with Adobe, Amazon, Getty, Google and Microsoft, and gained “first-mover” access to their generation AI models.

John Wren, Omnicom's chairman and CEO, said, "By unifying our production operations under one roof and connecting it to our data technology suite, we can provide our clients access to a wider range of talent, specialized skills, and services. This move will significantly accelerate how our clients can create content at scale in a simpler, more integrated and effective way."

Headquartered in New York, Omnicom Production will initially launch in the U.S. and will leverage existing global capabilities. It will have more than 3,000 Omnicom staffers to start.
