Perplexity Says It Will Share Ad Revenue With Publishers

Perplexity, an AI-powered search engine, is moving ahead on two fronts, including one that will benefit publishers.

First, Perplexity, has formed a strategic collaboration with Amazon Web Services to provide its Perplexity Enterprise Pro search tool to Amazon customers.

Amazon and Perplexity will collaborate on joint events, co-sell engagements and co-marketing. Perplexity was already Using Amazon Bedrock to support its generative AI capabilities.

In a more important development for the publishing industry, Perplexity said it will start a revenue-sharing program with web publishers next month.

That announcement was made during the VB Transform event, according to Venture Beat.

“It’s the first of its kind revenue share program where if they are contributing a source input for an answer, and we’re monetizing that answer with advertising, we’re going share that revenue with those publishers that contributed to that,” said Dmitry Shevelenko, chief business officer, Venture Beat reports.

This is in marked contrast to tech firms that threaten to kill news in areas that legislate revenue sharing.

Perplexity will provide a percentage of revenue from every ad run when a website is cited, Venture Beat continues.

Meanwhile, Perplexity and Amazon say the collaboration will help workflows.

“Perplexity Enterprise Pro, powered by Amazon Bedrock, enables customers to easily leverage SOTA (state-of-the-art)  foundation models to improve employee productivity,” says Atul Deo, general manager of Amazon Bedrock.

"Perplexity Enterprise Pro has allowed Databricks to substantially accelerate R&D, making it easier for our engineering, marketing, and sales teams to execute faster,” says Ali Ghodsi, CEO of Databricks. “We estimate it helps our team save 5,000 working hours monthly."
