Walmart plans to offer members a “whopper” of a deal.
“The retailer on Thursday announced a new partnership with fast-food chain Burger King that will offer members of its Walmart+ subscription program 25% off any Burger King order made through the BK app,” according to CNBC. “Members will also be eligible for a free flame-grilled Whopper every three months starting in September with a purchase.”
Walmart positioned the added benefits as cost savings for its members in the 4-year-old program which takes aim at Amazon Prime.
“It offers similar perks, including free shipping and same-day grocery delivery,” according to CNN Business. “Walmart has kept its annual price lower than Prime’s ($139) and has been adding benefits like this to match Amazon’s in an attempt to match its dominance.”

The decision to roll out the new perk was driven by "member insights" showing that members already dine at Burger King, and that the perk provides real value.
"The Burger King benefit helps members take advantage of savings on a dining solution they're already turning to when there aren't enough hours in the day," a Walmart spokesperson told CBS MoneyWatch. "It's our way of helping make our members' hectic schedules a little easier on the wallet."
Walmart launched Walmart+ in 2020, 15 years after Prime’s introduction. Membership costs $98 a year, while Prime costs $139.
“Walmart and other businesses with subscription models have struggled with retention in recent years amid stiff competition and higher prices for everyday necessities such as food,” according to The Wall Street. Journal. “They face established services that have already entrenched themselves in consumers’ budgets, such as video streaming platform Netflix and e-commerce behemoth Amazon’s Prime membership, which has more than 200 million members.”
One-third of Burger King locations are less than two miles from a Walmart store.
Burger King is the Walmart+ program’s first dining partner, according to Supermarket News.
