The New York Times is working with Apple Podcasts and Spotify to expand its audio reach and drive revenue.
Readers can subscribe to podcasts and access them via those channels, starting next month.
A podcast subscription will be available for $6 per month and $50 a year. But New York Times All Access and Home Delivery subscribers will have full access with no added charge.
Listeners who purchased a Times subscription in the New York Times app will be automatically connected when they open Apple Podcasts.
On Spotify, listeners can also connect their subscriptions by signing into their account from any New York Times podcast.
Shows such as “The Daily,” “The Ezra Klein Show,” “Hard Fork” and “Modern Love” will remain free, but listeners will need to subscribe to access the archives.

The Times indicated it was moving in this direction in July, but it says the subscription model is still evolving. It claims its podcasts reach tens of millions of people.
“Our audio journalism connects The Times with millions of people every day, and now we’re taking a significant step forward in transforming this powerful connection into a key driver of our subscription business,” says Ben Cotton, head of subscription growth at The Times. “We believe that our audio journalism, featuring the most authoritative coverage of the most important and interesting stories, is worth paying for.”
