Jersey Mike's Breast Cancer Research Fundraiser Brings In $4.4M

Jersey Mike’s held one hell of a kickoff for October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The chain recently announced the results of its charity event benefiting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF): $4.4 million for the organization.

The chaindonated 20% of Sept. 28 and Sept. 29 sales at almost all 3,000 chain locations to BCRF. The resulting $4.4 million will go to “support of lifesaving science to prevent and cure breast cancer,” per the brand.

“The authentic commitment across the board—from the Jersey Mike’s leadership team to their franchise owners and customers—represent the power of community,” said BCRF president and CEO Donna McKay in a statement. “By offering BCRF a potent media platform to share sensitive and thoughtful storytelling, Jersey Mike’s has made a substantial impact on fueling lifesaving breakthroughs and highlighting the critical need to accelerate research.”

McKay was referring to Jersey Mike’s moving national TV spot, seen here, that promoted the fund-raiser. The chain also  used social and earned media as part of the campaign.

The BCRF aren’t the only nonprofit to benefit from Jersey Mike’s fundraising efforts this year. The chain participates in March’s annual Month of Giving, and specifically on the Day of Giving, Mar. 27, “when more than 2,700 restaurants donated 100 percent of sales, not just profits, to local charities including hospitals, youth organizations, food banks and more.” The day resulted in raising over $25 million that was allocated to over 200 local charities, bringing the total raised by Jersey Mike’s to $113 million for local charities since the Month of Giving began in 2011.
