CW Network President Dennis Miller To Resign

Dennis Miller, who took over the reins of The CW Network after Nexstar Media Group acquired the network in late 2022, will resign as president of the broadcast channel, effective at the end of this month.

He will serve in an advisory role through the end of the calendar year.

Nexstar did not disclose future senior executive plans for the network.

Miller has held the position of president since October 2022, after Nexstar bought a 75% stake in the network from co-owners Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global.

Previously, Miller was a member of Nexstar’s board of directors -- where he had served since 2014.

While he was president, in two years, the CW shifted programming focus from younger-skewing scripted dramas and comedies to unscripted entertainment and other content as well adding sports programs including Nascar Xfinity, ACC college football and basketball, PAC 12 football, LIV Golf, and WWE NXT wrestling.

For the full year 2023, The CW posted $250 million in revenue -- up from $66 million the year before. At the same time, net losses widened $273 million -- up from $94 million.

In the most recent second-quarter period ending June 30, 2024, Nexstar said it reduced CW’s operating losses by $33 million year-over-year and $83 million year-to-date.

Not as easy to run a network as it looks.

The CW lost most of its younger viewers some time ago and the median age of its audience shot up beyond 50 years while its ad revenues plummeted. They had to blame somebody.

I thought that Dennis Miller would've stayed on until at the end of 2025 since he signed a 3 year deal last year at this time. I do like where The CW is heading with the sports and they have good shows still even if they aren't younger viewer demo like the past decade+. I like Ward Cards, Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Superman & Lois, All American etc.
