Fans of “Blue Bloods” are likely feeling blue this fall as their show nears the end of its 14-season run on CBS.
The made-in-New York cop show says goodbye with a one-hour finale on Friday, December 13, in its usual time period, 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern.
Before that, the show will be celebrated on another Friday on CBS -- November 29, the day after Thanksgiving, at 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern.
The show was about a multigenerational family whose members all worked in New York City law enforcement -- most notably, Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, played by series star Tom Selleck, 79.
The tribute on November 29 -- titled “Blue Bloods: Celebrating a Family Legacy” -- is produced by “Entertainment Tonight.”

The family dinners (photo above), which recurred throughout the series run, will of course be highlighted in the tribute special.
“Included in the show is a rare look inside the famous family dinner scene, where viewers learn family dinner secrets straight from the Reagans’ table,” says CBS.
The show’s finale on December 13 will be its 293rd episode, according to CBS. That’s more than enough to enjoy an afterlife in syndication, where it is already being re-run -- particularly on basic cable.
But unlike NBC’s “Law & Order” franchise of made-in-York criminal justice procedurals, CBS has not yet made any “Blue Blood” spin-offs, prequels or sequels, or otherwise sought to expand and maintain a “Blue Bloods” universe in the manner of so many other shows.
Perhaps these shows are in the works.
Ideas free of charge from the TV Blog include “Blue Bloods: Origins,” about the early career of commish Frank Reagan as a young uniformed cop. CBS already has “NCIS: Origins,” which premiered in October.
