Discovering DMARC: Email Senders Say Google, Yahoo Rules Helped Them

Skeptics might doubt that the email policies put in place by Google and Yahoo have had much of an impact. But they would be incorrect, judging by a new study from EasyDMARC.

Of email senders that have adopted DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance) over the past 12 months, 77% say they were directly or indirectly influenced by Google and Yahoo.

And they seem pleased with the results: 81% of firms that implemented DMARC said the measure met expectations in reducing spam and phishing emails, while another 15% claim it exceeded them.

Moreover, 85% feel that the measures enacted by Google and Yahoo are effective, and necessary to combat phishing and spam.

“Google and Yahoo have set a strong precedent, and have proven that influential providers can improve best practices through sensible, iterative protocol improvements,” says Gerasim Hovhannisyan, co-founder and CEO of EasyDMARC.

Overall, 45% of email senders now use the security DMARC protocol, up from 37% in the prior year. And 36% are “very confident” in their ability to fight phishing attacks an increase of 9% YoY.

“These findings reaffirm what we often hear from customers—implementing DMARC delivers tangible benefits in security and trust. However, businesses need to go further,” Hovhannisyan adds. “To fully protect against phishing and spoofing, organizations must move beyond basic implementation towards a ‘p=reject’ policy.

EasyDMARC surveyed 1,053 IT decision-makers and security professionals across North America, the U.K., ANZ, and BENELUX from January 24-27, 2025.
