PHD Taps IPG's Piner As Chief Investment Officer

Omnicom Media Group agency PHD USA has named Michael Piner Chief Investment Officer, effective immediately. Piner joins from IPG Mediabrands, where he was executive vice president-advanced advertising, a role that centered on recasting TV buying as a cross-screen/cross-channel investment offer.

He succeeds Katie Klein, who was named Chief Investment Officer of OMG North America last December.

The move marks a return to PHD for Piner, who did an earlier tour with the agency from 2007-2015, lastly as senior vice president-group director, leading investment for auto, entertainment and luxury goods clients.

Piner has held seats on both the Joint Industry Committee (JIC) to advance the standardization of alternative video currencies and the Go Addressable industry initiative.

His appointment marks the latest talent move made by CEO Michael Solomon to put his stamp on the agency. Since assuming the CEO role two years ago he has added Chief Media Officer Melissa Wisehart, Chief Operating Officer Katie Johnson, Chief Client Officer Lindsay Murtagh, and Chief Strategy Officer Matt Ticehurst to the agency’s C-suite.
