Actor Patrick Renna is probably best known for his role as “Ham” in the 1993 film “The Sandlot,” which featured a memorable group-vomit scene on a carnival ride.
In a partnership for Dramamine’s Advanced Herbals Ginger Chews, Renna goes on another carnival ride -- without vomiting.
“Anyone who has ever dealt with motion sickness before knows it's not much fun in real life,” the now-40ish actor said in a statement, adding that the ginger chews “make it easy to enjoy activities like carnival rides, road trips and cruises without worrying about nausea.”
In the new video, Renna is accompanied by his son, who’s now in the age range he was 30 years ago.

Dramamine, marketed by Prestige Consumer Health, calls this a “chew over,” and has also launched a “Chew Over Sweepstakes,” running through August. The grand prize winner will get to “redo a vacation at the destination of their choice.” While not a contest, the entry form does ask consumers to “share a trip or experience for you or a family member that was spoiled by nausea or motion sickness, that you would like to ‘Chew Over.’
The winner will receive round-trip airfare for two, three nights lodging, and $1,000, with maximum award not to exceed $7,500 in value), along with a year’s supply of chews (three 20-count packages). Three other winners will get the chews and a $500 travel gift card “to go towards their next vacation.”
Renna’s video has been posted on the social media channels of both Renna and Dramamine, with additional support from the latter coming through other social content, earned media coverage and targeted email marketing all driving consumers to the sweepstakes page, Erica Nesbitt, Prestige’s associate marketing director, tells Marketing Daily.
Agencies involved with the campaign are 360PR+ and Dramamine’s media agency The Shipyard, with the target audience 25- to 44-year-olds who suffer from motion sickness, nausea and/or upset stomach.
Unlike traditional Dramamine, which contains an antihistamine, the Ginger Chews brand is a supplement featuring ginger extract.
The Advanced Herbals line, whose ginger-based products also include Kids Gummies, Non-Drowsy and Nausea Stress Support (which adds ashwagandha extract), “will be debuting another campaign this summer directed in the health and wellness space,” Nesbitt reveals.
Previous Ginger Chews advertising included a spot in its Drama Llama campaign.
Prestige Consumer Health, known as Prestige Brands until seven years ago, acquired the now 76-year-old Dramamine brand from McNeil-PPC in 2010.
