The Atlanta
Journal-Constitution (AJC) is breaking its paywall—for libraries.
The news organization is partnering with the Georgia Public Library Service GPLA to
provide 3.9 million active library cardholders in the state with free digital access.
Visitors connected to wifi via mobile devices, tablets or laptops will be able to read unlimited
digital content from the AJC, including breaking news, politics, investigations, sports and culture.
This will be offered across 60 Georgia public library systems.
In addition,
the AJC will make a new subscriber offer to library cardholders at participating libraries for access outside the library. This will be supported through a revenue-sharing arrangement between
the AJC and GPLS.
The AJC recently announced that it is giving up print and converting entirely to digital. The online product will be available to many more people than the single
print issues that are typically found in libraries.
The AJC seeks to give all Georgians access to fact-based, in-depth reporting.
