House Judiciary Committee
Chairman Jim Jordan Tuesday released a letter sent to the committee from an attorney
representing Google, updating YouTube’s position on moderating YouTube accounts and “providing an opportunity” for previously banned accounts to rejoin the platform.
The
previously banned accounts were terminated for repeated violations of YouTube’s COVID-19 and elections integrity policies, which the attorney disclosed are "no longer in effect.”
The letter cites one example where senior Biden administration officials conducted repeated outreach to Alphabet and pressed the company with regard to certain user-generated content related to the
COVID-19 pandemic. While Google continued to develop its policies, the administration continued to press for the removal of “non-violative” user-generated content.

“YouTube
values conservative voices on its platform and recognizes that these creators have extensive reach and play an important role in civic discourse,” the attorney’s letter states. “The
company recognizes these creators are among those shaping today’s online consumption, landing ‘must-watch’ interviews, giving viewers the chance to hear directly from politicians,
celebrities, business leaders, and more.”
