Bloggers Are Writing Longer Articles, Study Finds

Organic traffic is slipping for many marketers and publishers. In fact, 63% say it is their biggest challenge, Digital Information World reports in a new study.

But there are things they can do to reverse this trend.

Some of the ideas in this report run counter to what many of us have been taught — for example, the study advises us to write long articles.

Editors and writers might welcome that. But there are other findings that could affect how they produce and promote content.

To start with, bloggers are using AI to do the following:

  • Generate ideas — 22%
  • Write headlines — 21%
  • Write outlines — 21%
  • Write first drafts — 20%
  • Write complete drafts — 16%
  • Suggest edits — 19%
  • Create visuals — 22%
  • Write promo emails — 23%
  • Write promo social media posts — 20%
  • I do not use AI — 15%

Here are the high-performing strategies for 2025:

  • Publish 2000-word articles — 39%
  • Collaborate with influencers on most articles — 37%
  • Publish multiple times per week — 37%
  • Use 4 images per article — 35%
  • Always check analytics — 32%
  • Use paid promotion channels — 30%
  • Spend 6 hours per article — 30%
  • Write guest posts — 29%
  • Add video to article — 28%
  • Usually research key phrases — 28%
  • Publish guides and ebooks — 27%
  • Publish original research — 25%

All of this is useful, but only these four items frequently lead to success:

  • Writing longer posts over 2000 words
  • Using multiple visuals
  • Working with influencers
  • Tracking analytics regularly

Digital Information World says its post about this study was created using generative AI tools.
