As Meta aims to scale its burgeoning AI and “superintelligence” business, the tech giant has hired former financial executive and security advisor to President Donald Trump Dina Powell McCormick as the company’s new president and vice chair.

According to an announcement from Meta, Powell McCormick will be tasked with guiding the company’s “overall strategy and execution” regarding the “next decade of computing” as envisioned by Meta.

Powell McCormick “will drive an effort to build new strategic capital partnerships,” while suggesting new ways to expand Meta’s long-term investment capacity, the announcement reads. 

Alongside Meta’s compute and infrastructure teams, Powell McCormick will also be expected to make sure the company’s multi-billion-dollar investments execute against the company’s goals “and drive positive economic impact in the communities” where Meta operates globally.

Prior to assuming this new role, Powell McCormick was a longtime partner at investment firm Goldman Sachs and served in advisory roles under two U.S. presidents. Most recently, the new Meta president served as a deputy national security advisor to President Trump.

Upon being hired by Meta, Trump supported Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s decision via a Truth Social post.

In Meta’s announcement, Zuckerberg touted Powell McCormick’s financial experience as well as her personal and business relationships “around the world,” stating that these attributes will be advantageous as the company invests heavily in training its AI models, building data centers, energy infrastructure, and developing its “superintelligence” initiative.
