You’re going to need some deeper
pockets.
That’s the idea behind tax preparation company Jackson Hewitt’s “Refund Jeans” campaign, with the brand suggesting that customers will need those pockets for
the extra money they get in their tax returns this year, thanks to the company’s “biggest refund” guarantee and Tax Refund Advance loan.
The “Refund Jean”
are apparently real: denim jeans for men and women, with oversized pockets (for large federal tax refunds).
The campaign centers around a promotional sweepstakes on social media, which offers
a chance to win a pair of “Refund Jeans” to followers of the brand on social media who engage with the campaign on Instagram.
Jackson Hewitt introduced the “Refund
Jeans” with an infomercial-style video posted to its social channel. It’s asking audiences to follow the brand on
Instagram, like its “Refund Jeans” post, share how they would spend their largest refund, and tag a friend in need of “#BigRefundEnergy,” using both that hashtag and a
“#SweepsEntry” hashtag in their response.

The promotion is running through Feb. 15, with the brand selecting 25 winners per week. Jackson Hewitt is also promoting the campaign on
social media through posts in collaboration with influencer partners on Instagram and TikTok.
The campaign promotes Jackson Hewitt’s expanded Tax Refund Advance loan feature, which allows approved
clients to receive up to $3,500 on a prepaid card, or deposited to a bank account, so they don’t have to wait for their federal tax refund. Customers can apply for the loan at any Jackson Hewitt
location, as well as at the brand’s kiosk locations within Walmart.
The stunt appears to be a low-cost way to attract attention and create social media engagemen. It arrives as at least
one major competitor is investing heavily in a big budget tax season campaign. Intuit’s Turbo Tax recently announced that the brand will be returning to the Super Bowl as part of a broader tax season campaign
continuing its “Now This Is Taxes” brand platform.
