Lyft Plans Rideshare Feature Geared Toward Teens

Lyft is launching a rideshare feature designed specifically for teenagers ages 13 to 17 where they are able to request their own rides.

Lyft Teen is launching on Feb. 9 in over 200 major markets, including New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Phoenix, Dallas-Fort Worth, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington D.C., and Miami, with more markets coming throughout 2026.

Parents maintain full control through the Lyft app, creating and managing their account, and seeing every ride in real time.

Features include strict driver criteria. Lyft Teen drivers meet the highest standards on the platform—annual background checks, proven safe driving records, positive passenger interactions, and experience behind the wheel. These drivers consistently earn some of the highest ratings on the platform.

Parents maintain complete visibility, every step of the way with a link to track trips in real time, receive updates at pickup and drop-off, and can communicate directly with their teen's driver if needed. Transparency from start to finish.

There are default protections designed for teens including PIN authentication, which is on by default to confirm the right rider gets in the right car. Audio recording is prompted by default for an extra layer of safety and accountability. These aren't optional—they're built in.
