Spotify, Liquid Death Musical Urn Sells Out

Spotify and Liquid Death are offering an afterlife filled with music.

"The music streaming platform has partnered with the beverage brand Liquid Death to create the ‘Eternal Playlist Urn,’” according to USA Today. “The company said it's the world's first wireless speaker designed to bring ‘your music somewhere it's never been before.’”

Only 150 were made available and the urn is currently sold out according to Liquid Death’s website and it’s undetermined if another production run result in more availability.

“Though it’s not technically meant to store your loved one’s ashes, as it’s more of a collector’s item, this won’t stop a lot of kooky people out there,” according to TechRadar. “To give you a taste of what the Eternal Playlist Urn is all about, Liquid Death shared a short video that’s very reminiscent of a gimmicky SNL skit. The only thing that’s missing is a jarring laugh track.”

The item has a Bluetooth speaker built into the lid. Purchasers can connect the urn to their music using any compatible device.

“When you get the urn, you can create your own Eternal Playlist on Spotify by answering questions like ‘What’s your eternal vibe?’ or ‘What’s your go-to ghost noise?’” according to TechCrunch. “Spotify will then use your answers and listening history to generate a custom playlist, which syncs directly to the urn’s speaker and can be shared with friends and family.”

While the urn is currently sold out, consumers can still create an Eternal Playlist.

“You may not want to buy a musical cremation urn, but Spotify has another gimmick,” according to CNET. “It'll help you create the playlist it thinks you'll want to listen to after death.”

The promotion has an interesting backstory.

“We got connected with the team at Spotify a while back and began chatting about what would make for a fun collab based on what we’re each known for,” Andy Pearson, VP of creative at Liquid Death, tells Muse. “Pretty quickly we landed on the idea that together we could help people enjoy their favorite music forever. Now more than ever, people are considering alternatives to the traditional post-life experience. Getting blasted with your favorite jams would be pretty sweet.”
