Buc-ee’s gas station mascot appears happy-go-lucky,
but don’t mess with the beaver’s likeness.
That's the premise of a lawsuit filed in federal court against Ohio-based Coles IP, which owns Mickey's stores.
“The Buc-ee's logo features a cartoonish beaver with oversized eyes looking up and to the right on a yellow circle trimmed in black,” according to the Sandusky Register. “The beaver is wearing a red ball cap. Mickey's, formerly
Mickey Mart, logo is a cartoonish moose with oversized eyes looking up and to the right on a red hexagon trimmed in black.”
Buc-ee's claims Mickey's logo is too similar to the
one its company uses, according to the lawsuit, which was recently filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.

“Buc-ee’s lawsuit against an Ohio gas
station is just one of several in recent years the company has filed against those accused of ripping off its mascot,” according to Cleveland.com. “Buc-ee’s said it has invested heavily
in building its brand and will aggressively defend it.”
Lawsuit or not, driving enthusiasts in seven new states will soon get the chance to experience the allure of the gas
station superstores which has become a cultural phenomenon firsthand.
Fox
LiveNow reports that Buc-ee’s is expanding into Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, North Carolina, Ohio and Wisconsin.
“Since its founding in 1982, the
company has primarily focused on the South, so this is a logical next step to find new markets,” notes The Drive. “The Ohio and Arizona locations will
reportedly open later this year, and the rest in 2027. Two states where Buc-ee’s already has a presence—Tennessee and Texas—will also reportedly get one new location each, also
opening in 2027.”
Last fall Buc-ee’s topped Dunnhumby’s latest ranking of America’s convenience stores, outscoring all 40 competitors by a wide margin, according to Marketing Daily. Sheetz came in second, followed by Wawa, Kwik
Trip, and Walmart c-stores.
