Instagram Testing Direct Link-Sharing In Post Captions

Meta Verified subscribers have reported the ability to incorporate clickable links directly into the captions of their Instagram posts, marking a notable shift in how creators are able to interact with their followers.

A blogger named Andrew Valeria flagged the new capability on Thursday, uploading a video screenshot to Threads. Valeria stated in her post that Meta allows 10 clickable links within an Instagram post per month, according to a pop-up message on Instagram.

In her example, Valeria included a Substack link at the bottom of an Instagram grid post, showing that clicking on the link brings users directly to the welcome page of her Substack newsletter.

Until now, Meta has maintained a strict policy against clickable links within Instagram grid posts, forcing users to direct their followers to a link included in their biography, or a multitude of links via a separate “link-in-bio” platform, such as Linktree.

After building mass popularity on Instagram, Linktree faced initial challenges in April 2023, when the Meta-owned social media platform increased the number of links users could use in their bios from one to five.

If Instagram rolls out link-in-post capability to all paying subscribers, Linktree could eventually be rendered obsolete on the app.

Meta has confirmed the link-in-post test for some Meta Verified subscribers, but has not provided any further details.
