Garage Beer, Charcoal Company Kingsford Partner For Halloween, Tailgating Promo

Garage Beer’s latest collab taps into 1990s nostalgia, and a love of tailgating, for a collectible Halloween promo.

The “beer-flavored beer” has teamed up with charcoal briquette company Kingsford on “Terrors of the Tailgate,” a set of limited-edition football-and monster-themed trading cards. Reminiscent of the popular Garbage Pail Kid trading cards from the 1990s, each displays a football tailgate-related spooky character, such as The Table Smasher, The Face Paint Fanatic, The Cooler Raider, The Parking Lot Prophet and Kingsford's The Flamekeeper.

“The '90s had a grip on fall like no other era,” said Garage Beer CEO Andy Sauer. “Football season, trading cards, Halloween, there was just something about it. We wanted to bring all of that nostalgia together with Terrors of the Tailgate and have some fun with the characters and traditions that make football season what it is. And no matter what decade you're in, a good tailgate still comes down to the basics: friends, Garage Beer in the cooler and Kingsford charcoal in the grill. If you're not grilling or drinking, you're probably not tailgating.”

A short film, staring Garage Beer co-founder Jason Kelce (AKA “The King of the Tailgate,” as he appears on one of the cards), seen here, promotes the collectaibles. In the 1:30 spot, Kelce appears as a hunchbacked sidekick to a Dr. Frankenstein-esque mad scientist, who brings the cards’ characters to life, infusing them with “tailgate energy,” as they wreak havoc on a parking lot tailgate party.

The spot runs across Garage Beer social channels.

The cards are available for $5.99 while supplies last.

Earlier this year, Garage Beer announced it is now being served at Red Robin, making the burger chain the first restaurant to serve the beer nationwide.
