NBCU Taps Winter To Sell Summer Olympics, Other Sports

NBC Universal has tapped Seth Winter to head sales for its sports and Olympic properties--a position that includes oversight of events, such as the Beijing Summer Games and 2009 Super Bowl. Winter was vice president of sales for NBCU Digital Media and replaces Peter Lazarus, who left to join sports marketing powerhouse IMG.

In his new role as senior vice president of sales and marketing for NBCU's sports and Olympics properties, Winter oversees sales for the next three Olympic games and the 2009 and 2012 Super Bowls. He will also lead sales efforts for NBC's "Sunday Night Football" package and the U.S. Open golf championship.

As vice president of sales for digital media, Winter supervised sales for NBCU's Internet and broadband offerings--an increasing focus at the company's sports operations, with the recently launched NBCSports.com and prominence of NBCOlympics.com during the Torino Winter Games in February.

NBCOlympics.com streamed the men's hockey gold-medal game live, and is expected to be a principal outlet for live video during the next three Olympics. NBC has the rights locked up to the Summer Games in Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012, and the Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010.

Prior to joining NBCU, Winter was the president and general manager for WRBW in Orlando, Fla. Before that, he held multiple senior sales roles at WOR in New York.

Lazarus joined IMG as senior vice president of business development and sales earlier this month.
