A new report shows that DVR users skew so much younger that the average median age for "live" viewing on ABC, CBS and NBC is 50, but it drops to 40 for the audience watching in a time-shifted manner.
Fox, which has a "live" median age of 42, has shown a decline to 35 for DVR-aided viewing, according to the Magna Global findings.
And keeping with the unsurprising
DVR-users-are-younger theme, the CW targeting 18- to-34-year-olds has a median age of 32 in "live," which falls only to 31 in the DVR area.
Magna Global also found that 30% of all prime-time
series viewed "live" have average median ages of 50 or more, but among time-shifted viewers, no series was above 50.
ABC's "Dancing with the Stars," CBS's "The Amazing Race" and NBC's "Deal or No
Deal" are among the series with "live" median ages over 50, but DVR ones under 40.
The "live" median age for ABC is 48, and 37 for DVR playback; it's 53 and 40, respectively, for CBS; and 49 and
37, respectively for NBC.
