Hanrahan To Exit OMD

On Monday, Jack Hanrahan announced his intention to leave his post as director of U.S. print strategy at OMD by the end of this week. Hanrahan said he will go into business as an independent consultant for clients in magazine and outdoor media. He also plans to begin publishing at least one newsletter covering important issues in the print media business.

Hanrahan will stay on with OMD as a consultant through the end of 2007, but he will no longer deal with print media, to avoid any conflict of interest with his new independent consulting business. His activities in the second half of 2007 will be focused on acquiring new business and working to retain accounts that are currently up for review. He will also help recruit a replacement for himself.

While he can't yet share the specific details of his new ventures, Hanrahan said his new independent consulting business would have him "providing assistance to media clients with positioning of the product, analyzing data, helping with sales presentations and materials, and thinking of ideas that would be compelling to folks on the buying side."

The newsletter will deal with "how magazines are bought and sold," leveraging "a lot of data that can be analyzed but hasn't necessarily." Hanrahan said the newsletter would be relevant to "to people on both the publishing and buying sides."
