Give a Damn

Apparently, you damn well better believe Canadian Club isn’t your mother’s whisky — it’s your father’s. The brand’s first campaign in 20 years couples imagery from the ’60s and ’70s (which, incidentally, might have fit right in with those last campaigns) with eyebrow-raising copy to position the brand as retro-stylish and masculine. If the tagline “Damn Right Your Dad Drank It,” doesn’t grab you, perhaps “Your Mom Wasn’t Your Dad’s First” or “Your Dad Never Got a Pedicure” will. The ads by Energy BBDO, which use old photos unearthed from employees’ family albums, debuted in the November issues of Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated and Sporting News, and December issues of Playboy, Men’s Journal, Esquire, Outside and Men’s Fitness.
