Most of us would probably rather be sent into a dungeon with an insurance salesman (any
Take the Money and Run fans out there?) than be bombared with political ads for months and
months previous to elections.
So some eyebrows raised this morning when opening keynote speaker Hal Brierley, founder and CEO of eMiles, reported on a new service called eMiles Vote!
Seems the company sent emails asking 457,000 consumers who'd identified themselves as interested in politics if they would be interested in receiving and being surveyed about political
ads/communications. And 150,000 said "Yes, please send me political ads"! Which (since the participants are providing in-depth profiles) is enabling politicians to clearly gauge how specific types of
people--say, liberal women vs conservative men--respond to the same communication.
Perhaps there should be some kind of public award for such valor? Or perhaps this is the basis for a
different kind of study, on masochism?
