Chalk one up for MediaBank in its below-the-line marketing battle with media data processing giant Donovan Data Systems at the AAAA Media Conference. When I searched the wi-fi networks available in
the room during the general session this morning, MediaBank's wi-fi hub was among the networks. There wasn't any for Donovan.
Unfortunately, MediaBank's was secured and like the Rosen Shingle
Creek's supposedly available wi-fi network, was not accessible to me. But maybe that was a subliminal statement by MediaBank that its systems are always secure. Unfortunately, they also weren't open,
which is another phrase MediaBank has been trumpeting -- that it's an open source system based on current, state-of-the-art Web access technologies.
A few days back, I asked MediaBank chief
Brad Keywell if that made MediaBank akin to Linux's operating system and made Donovan more like Microsoft's. He responded, "We're not like Linux in one respect. We get paid for what we do."
Apparently, that goes for their AAAA conference wi-fi network too.
