Students from Ball State University affiliated with its Center for Media Design are offering the "pros" in attendance some insight into their media habits. An interesting topic they're mulling: Will
the primary form of online communication in the workplace migrate from email to social networking platforms as people who grow up with Facebook join the work force?
Brandon
Prebynski, a grad student in digital storytelling, says he already uses Facebook as his default communication system and believes email's primacy will diminish in the near future. It may
not be a Facebook or MySpace, but he's convinced a social networking platform will be the principal form of intra-office "mail."
Two fellow students, Amanda Pollard and
August Miller, however, aren't so sure. They say Facebook is for their social lives and not a professional platform. Miller says he can't fathom his boss signing on to his Facebook
page and finding out that his favorite movie is "The Big Lebowski."Â
Some bosses, of course, may give him a raise for that, but the point is well taken.Â
