IAB Creates New Membership Category

  • June 10, 2008
The Interactive Advertising Bureau is creating a new class of membership for small online publishers, the organization announced Monday.

The IAB said the goal of the new, $500 per year memberships, is to help small interactive publishers "mobilize ... to prevent adverse state and federal regulation that could hinder the publishers' ability to sell or carry advertising."

Specifically, the IAB cited initiatives including pending legislation in New York and Connecticut that would require ad companies that engage in behavioral targeting to notify Web users and let them opt out. "The IAB's analysis of the proposed regulations is that they would have a disproportionately negative impact on small publishers whose advertising sales are largely or entirely managed by ad networks," the group stated.
