The Houston-based division of Royal Dutch Shell, Shell Hydrogen LLC, is opening California's first hydrogen refueling station at a conventional Shell gasoline store.
The station,
at Santa Monica Boulevard and Federal Avenue, is intended for vehicles that propel cars with electricity derived from on-board hydrogen fuel cells. The effluent from these vehicles is water vapor.
There are 25 hydrogen stations in California, most in the San Francisco-Sacramento corridor and the Greater Los Angeles and San Diego regions. At the Shell station, hydrogen will be produced
on-site via electrolysis.
