Former NBC News executive Andrew Lack has been named chief executive officer of Bloomberg's television, interactive and radio operations group. Bloomberg has 2,300 editorial-side employees.

Lack's reputation grew during his tenure at NBC. From 1993 to 2001, when Lack was president of NBC News, the network became the most-watched news organization for its key shows: "NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw," "Meet the Press" and "The Today Show."

For two years after that, he was president/chief operating officer for NBC--overseeing entertainment, news, including MSNBC and CNBC; NBC Stations, Sales, and broadcast and network operations.

In June, former Time Inc. Editor in Chief Norman Pearlstine joined Bloomberg as chief content officer. Lack will work with him, and will report to president Dan Doctoroff--who also joined this year, after working in the office of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Doctoroff said: "Bloomberg, unburdened by outdated business models, has the opportunity to redefine the 21st-century news organization, fully integrating our wire service, television, online, radio and mobile operations."

Chairman Peter Grauer added: "While other news organizations are shrinking, we continue to expand, improving our existing products while investing in new ones."

Lack will head one half of a new Bloomberg reorganization of its content operations (multimedia), with Bloomberg news Editor in Chief Matthew Winkler, a company veteran, heading the other (news). Winkler's group includes the company's wire service, magazine and book publishing. Pearlstine works as a liaison between both groups.

Most recently, Lack had been chairman of Sony BMG Music Entertainment and before that, CEO of Sony BMG Music Entertainment, where he oversaw all operations of the global recorded music and video company.

Prior to NBC, Lack worked at CBS News as an executive producer, where his shows won many awards, including 16 Emmys.

Editor in Chief Matthew Winkler and chief content officer Norman Pearlstine will also report to Doctoroff.
