A half-eaten pastrami sandwich overshadows a picture of the kitchen in one ad. "Our
kitchens will inspire you to take up cooking. And if that doesn't work, there's always the 2nd Ave Deli down the block," reads the copy.
The ads aim to quell the fears of potential buyers that the surrounding neighborhood of a luxury condo might lack local flavor.
Ranging from $635,000 to $4.5 million, the condos are located near the United Nations, movie theaters and, interestingly enough, the Midtown Tunnel. Even Petco gets a little free publicity in a second ad, which reads, "Don't worry if your dog is hungry enough to eat one of our bocce balls. There's a Petco right around the corner."
The ads are running in the
New York Times, Real Deal, Time Out New York, New York Magazine and Korean Times.
My favorite ad, with a picture of a fruity drink complete with little umbrella, states, "A stone's throw away from the Midtown Tunnel, so your mom can drop by. Equally close to about 20 bars where you can ride it out till she's left."
Crawford Advertising Associates handled the media buy.
